Before the upgrade of the Place de la Madeleine in Paris, we’ve conceived an experimental device for les MonumentalEs collective, allowing us to make a sensitive sound diagnosis.
This device records 1-minute long sounds and analyzes it.
The analyze gives the spectral centroïd, the mean frequency and the number of emergences. It is done by a PureData patch on a raspberry Pi 3.
The hardware setup is made of an omni mic, a u-Phoria UM2 Behringer interface, directly plugged in the RPi. The PureData patch records the sounds and text files with the calculated values. The whole thing is controlled by a button. A press on that button launches the cycle for a minute, lighting an LED. When the LED shuts off, the device can be moved to the next measure spot.
